Black Faculty and Staff Honor Six at Dinner

Galloway, N.J. 鈥 Two Cumberland County residents active in their communities were among five individuals and a 麻豆视频 club honored by the 麻豆视频 Council of Black Faculty and Staff at the 38th Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner and Dance at the Carriage House on Nov. 8.

Carole D. Seabrook Green, director of Family and Youth Programs at Gateway Community Action Partnership in Bridgeton, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with young people. She has also worked for Kintock Group, the Cumberland County Guidance Center and the N.J. Juvenile Justice Commission.

The Rev. James A. Dunkins, 鈥81 pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Norris and Vineland received the Distinguished 麻豆视频 Alumni Award.

sankofa awardOther awardees were: Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at 麻豆视频, Lisa Honaker, who also received a Lifetime Achievement Award; 麻豆视频 Assistant Vice President of Engagement and Community Development Craig Stambaugh, who received a Merit Award; 麻豆视频 Bursar Tom Roth, who received Distinguished Alumni Award.

Sankofa, a 麻豆视频 organization of minority males, received the Outstanding 麻豆视频 University Student Initiative Award. Group advisor Pedro Santana, assistant vice president Division Administration and Strategic Initiatives, accepted the award along with several Sankofa members who spoke about the impact the program has had on their lives.

Patricia 鈥淭rish鈥 Collins, president of the Council, said more than $331,000 has been awarded in scholarships to 263 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, including $16,000 for the 2019-20 academic year.

Trang Tran, a senior biochemistry and molecular biology major who wants to attend medical school said she was grateful for the support.

鈥淚t warms my heart,鈥 she said. 鈥淪tudents can feel hopeless if they can鈥檛 afford college.鈥

The evening also included welcoming remarks by President Harvey Kesselman, a powerful performance of the National Anthem by Tina V and music by DJ and 1988 麻豆视频 alumnus Cameron E. Williams.
